In India’s outsourcing hub, the Mumbai terror attacks have generated fresh anxieties as well as new commercial prospects.

India Anoop Ramakrishnan, a 25-year-old engineer working for an outsourcing company in Bangalore, supports telecom networks across Europe and Canada during the work week. Ramakrishnan spends his weekends training with a group of twelve people on how to avoid a flying grenade during a terror attack, how to get out of a gunfight, and how to block an armed attacker’s blow.
Bangalore, a vibrant metropolis of eight million people in India, is regarded as the global centre for outsourcing. Tall, dazzling buildings on its streets bear the names of Microsoft, Yahoo!, Google, and General Electric. Engineers and back office staff work continuous 24-hour shifts for businesses like AOL and Citibank in the suburbs.
Bangalore is currently susceptible due to its reputation as a major worldwide outsourcing hub. In the past several weeks, multiple e-mail terror threats were received by six of the city’s leading outsourcing corporations. The intelligence agencies of India have issued a warning, stating that following Mumbai, outsourcing companies may be the next target for terrorists.

However, none of this is impenetrable for example, in the event of a suicide attack.
Furthermore, the world is not the same outside these establishments. The campuses and buildings of the enterprises border densely populated areas. The only weapon used by overworked and insufficiently funded police officers to uphold the law as they patrol these neighbourhoods is a narrow bamboo stick, or lathi.
Bangalore’s chief minister, who acknowledges the insufficient security measures in place, has frequently urged the federal government to establish an anti-terror commando team in Bangalore.
