IPS probationers to get tough training Israeli Combat, Scuba Diving Must
Tough Task Budding police officers at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy are learning Krav Maga, an Israeli hand-to-hand combat self defense technique at gives the fighter more aggressive endurance.
Hyderabad: The introduction of new combat techniques into the training schedule has made life difficult for the most recent batch of IPS probationers due to terrorism. ‘Krav Maga (Self Defense)’ is an Israeli hand-to-hand combat style that offers the combatant more aggressive endurance. It is the newest addition for aspiring police officers at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). However, the 61st batch of IPS probationers, who graduate on November 6, 2009, have an advantage over the esteemed institution’s graduates not just because of ‘Krav Maga (Self Defense)’. The 91 probationers, which included 23 women for the first time, had also improved their scuba diving abilities. It was undoubtedly obvious that they would have fun. An officer assisting in the probationers’ training stated, “It was all about learning to not only explore the unknown waters and survive hazards but also acquiring the skill to rescue.” The addition of Krav Maga (Self Defense) and scuba diving to the IPS probationer basic course syllabus is just one sign of how the roughly one-year program will get more rigorous, as a complete overhaul is planned. The probationers presumably did not expect to be cut off from civilization for several days and to get lost in Tamil Nadu’s thick and deadly jungles, yet they persevered through it all. Director K Vijay Kumar, who formerly served as the head of the TN Special task team and found sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, is spearheading the training reform. The trainees do not have to become physically strong as a result of their time in the jungle. However, it undoubtedly fortifies their mental toughness,” Vijay Kumar told TOI.
