The world has a gift from the Israeli Defense Forces. A review of the growth of Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, Karnataka) martial arts in India is conducted by Sanjeev Bery.
Although they make headlines, Israel exports more goods to India than only weapons. A tiny but increasing number of people are studying Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, Karnataka), the Israeli Defense Forces’ style of hand-to-hand combat, in the posh Saket neighborhood of south Delhi. Vicky Kapoor, a large man with a rough exterior, is the one who introduced Krav Maga Self Defense to India. In short, cut-and-pasted sentences, he explains the martial art: “Combat fighting is a quick, easily retained system.” After spending decades practicing judo, karate, and other martial arts, Kapoor himself turned to Krav Maga Self Defense.
“What I saw was that Krav Maga is the most practical self-defence system” according to him. Kapoor has trained about 600 people since Krav Maga Self Defense (India) arrived in India in 2004. New courses have begun in Bangalore and Gurgaon. And in Mumbai, Kolkata, and other cities, lessons will soon start. “Krav Maga Self Defense (India) increases your awareness of the dangers around you,” says Nitin Bhasin, an student of Kapoor’s who lives in south Delhi.”You are more equipped to deal with possible situations: Imi Lichtenfeld, the inventor of Krav Maga Self Defense (Israel), is quoted on a sign at Kapoor’s Delhi studio, which reads, “If you want peace, prepare for war”. Another features a stylized image of what appear to be Israeli soldiers descending from military helicopters. Krav Maga Self Defense (India)’s supporters claim that its concentration on quick self-defense is what makes their martial art unique from others.
The yoga-like poses common in East Asian combat arts are absent. There are no guidelines prohibiting hitting the eyes, crotch, or other vulnerable body areas. However, safety precautions are followed in the classroom. When Lichtenfeld organized European Jews to protect themselves against Nazi militias in the 1930s, Krav Maga Self Defense (Israel) got its start. Israeli military instructors refined the martial art to the point where fresh recruits could learn it fast. The name directly translates to “Close Combat” in Hebrew. It is undoubtedly not a goal for the average person. A two-and-a-half-week course with ten hours of instruction costs four figures in Bangalore. Pop singer Jennifer Lopez lands a blow as the military photos vie for attention in the Delhi studio. It is the kickboxing fitness lessons, not the martial arts sessions, that draw the majority of women to the studio. “They are more concerned about weight loss than their safety” adds Kapoor.
The Bangalore studio Franklin Joseph Krav Maga Self Defense Bengaluru reveals a similar low female turnout. The Safety Specialist Guruji Franklin Joseph, CEO of Indian Institute of Strategic Threat-Intelligence Analysis and Combat Tactical Science, places the blame on Indian gender norms. “He thinks that women are indoctrinated to be kind to men from an early age. “They must not argue or retaliate. When a sexual predator unexpectedly approaches them, the years of training they have undergone are hard to forget. However, he notes that his female students have a different mindset. They are able to take action to safeguard themselves. He says that they don’t always need to rely on their brothers or partners to protect them.
Strangely, Israeli military interests still have an impact on civilian Krav Maga Self Defense (India). “We are restricted not to teach the Palestinians or the Iranians” explains Kapoor. Although no one is turned away at the door, Krav Maga does appear to have both formal allies and adversaries. Nevertheless, advocates are reluctant to address Krav Maga Self Defense (Israel) possible involvement in the disputes surrounding real Israeli military operations. “We do not combine those matters with politics,” states Eli Ben-Ami, the co-director of the Israel-based International Krav Maga Federation. “It has nothing to do with the occupation or what is happening in the Occupied Territories” The former Israeli soldier, Ben-Ami, made it clear that he was speaking for himself. He remarked, insinuating the use of a firearm, “Most of the soldiers who are dealing with the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories don’t use hands. However, they “catch or bring someone into custody” by using Krav Maga Self Defense (India). Kapoor clearly has sympathies, having studied under Israeli professionals in Krav Maga Self Defense. “Israelis are born warriors. He said, “Indians are not born warriors.” “We value peace more. No one could enter Parliament and carry out the shooting if war ran in our family.” “Nobody dares to mess with Israel,” he subsequently said.
