The Power Behind the Punch ~ Unsung Heroes, Our Family as Inspirations & Their Support

Clientele PAN India - Call 9886769281 for Franklin Joseph Corporate Self Defense Workshops

Read Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) Warriors Testimonoals about balancing family and training.

I, Specialist Franklin Joseph stands tall in the vibrant metropolis of Bengaluru, India, amongst the chaotic & often violent rhythm of daily life, as a beacon of Empowerment & Self Defense guru via Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) lessons. However, behind every exceptional teacher / specialist is often an unsung hero, and in my case, that hero is my wife, Sharon Alagodi Joseph.

There is a certain merit to the old saying, “Behind every great man is a great woman.” In my case, such a woman is indisputably my wife, Sharon Alagodi Joseph. Today, I’d like to recognise her continuous backing for more than two decades, particularly when it comes to my passion project, teaching Krav Maga self-defense classes & conducting corporate workshops in Bengaluru, India.

First and foremost, my Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) classes are held on weekends in Bangalore. The truth is that every weekend Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) classes in Bengaluru, India always include sacrifices for me and my family, particularly my wife. However, for more than 2 decades i.e., 2200+ or so weekends, I have spent my time teaching people the technique of Krav Maga Self Defense in Bengaluru, India. To be honest, organising Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) weekend classes or corporate workshops isn’t exactly a walk in the park because of the distance. The travel to Bengaluru, India from Dharwad my home-town after my marriage, requires commuting by bus or train every 2200+ weekend for more than 500 kilometres per trip, along with dosage of sleepless nights from irritated co-passengers, travel troubles with train or bus delays etc., and all of this means foregoing valuable family time.

While I am in class teaching practitioner’s Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India), Sharon, my wife, is keeping things moving at home while balancing her job as lecturer along with taking care of our daughter. Her continued assistance has always allowed me to follow my chosen career. But, to be honest, there have been several occasions when we both or one of us felt lonely, frustrated, and had a powerful desire to spend weekend time together. She’s the one that holds down the fort, such as attending reunions with relatives alone, representing our small family unit with a beam, despite our quiet desire to attend together.

Sharon, with her reserved strength, has hardly complained. Her assistance goes beyond emotional issues. Many times in my Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) class, there were some humbling my Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioners show up! The finances were exceptionally tight. Rent demanded to be paid on time. Travel expenses were greater than profits. But Sharon, ever the rock, never let our morale drop. She became the budget magician, finding ways to cut back and even tapping into her personal resources to keep our house and Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) center afloat.

Her emotional foundation, in addition to financial help, was very much appreciated. There were times when the situation was so severe that we had to close multiple centres in Bengaluru, India> Leading to emotional distress, depression, and frustration. However we kept on supported each other. Many times, I received messages from former Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioners offering financial stand, which I respectfully denied but was moved by the faith of my extended family – the warriors of Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India).

Mr. Vicky Kapoor, my Indian guru, teacher, and mentor, once explained the significance of the name ‘Sensei’ to me when I first started calling him that. He went on to say “It means one who walked 1000 steps ahead of you, made 1000 mistakes and learnt 1000 solutions to those mistakes.” These words inspired me to have another conversation with one of my Israeli gurus while studying as a Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioner: “You have to be like God in front of your students!” I politely refused, explaining that I would rather be an elderly family member or a big brother to them. Because I would rather highlight my shortcomings and my tireless efforts to overcome them so that the Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioners with me can learn from this too.

Then came a global hard punch: the worldwide pandemic. My classes closed along with the rest of the world. Discouragement tried to consume me, but Sharon refused to give up. She became my reinforcement once again, reminding me of the passion that drove me on this journey, the influence I had on those who did turn up, and the value of resilience. She was my shoulder to lean on, patiently listening to my concerns, and my financial advisor, creating strategies to deal with the unexpected financial burden.

Today, the Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) sessions are doing well thanks to Sharon’s persistent trust in me. We have a small, strong, dedicated group of warriors, and the sense of empowerment I see in their eyes justifies every sacrifice. Sharon and Me, recognised the impact these classes have, not just on the Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioner, but also on their families and loved ones. Many of my Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioner’s, like me, are motivated to continue because they want to safeguard their families or loved ones. They come to class with stories of their own silent partners, wives and family who sometimes realised, yet sometime do not foresee the value of self-defense training, even if it means giving up some family time.

Work in Combat Training will lead to some levels of injuries. Then came my personal experience with unfortunate events: a year of rehabilitation following a terrible fracture to my chest that had me unable to move and reliant on others to perform even the most basic essential activities. Sharon was there to take care of me while managing her job and family responsibilities.

Three I.C.U. visits dealing with Pancratic attacks punctuated the long, gruelling period of hospital visits, each bringing a new wave of a state of helplessness, fear and uncertainty. Two I.C.U. emergency visit were because of my negligent abuse of food (emotional over-eating). It resulted in Gall Bladder surgery, while beneficial, was a significant undertaking, and the weeks I spent restricted to a three different hospital bed were amongst the most heartbreaking of my life. Throughout it all, Sharon was my foundation, a persistent source of comfort and unwavering medium. She carried the load of our household, managed our daughter’s requirements, and never let uncertainty enter my head. And her positive energy was shaking, I was her confidence booster, emphasising how important she is to our family.

The doctors who diagnosed my chest fracture, as well as other muscular weakness in my arms, knuckles and knees, not to mention my Pancreatic attack and Gall Bladder surgery, recommended me to immediately stop teaching Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) because it was impossible for me to do justice to the job requirements. They mentioned that I could barely climb stairs in agonising pain, so how could I face intensive combat training, which is both psychological and physical demanding. In addition, I had to travel 1000 kilometres every week, consuming outside food that might impact my already damaged pancreas along with compromised stomach. In-spite of all these setbacks, my wife, Sharon never lost trust in me. Her unwavering footing allowed me to focus on my recovery, taking each painful step towards regaining my strength knowing she had our back. We both joined the gym, despite my doctor’s advice, and began weight training while also monitoring our diets, protein intake, essential aminoacid, non-essential aminoacid and other nutritions. I can confidently claim that we have gotten stronger both physically and psychologically, transforming us into fitness freaks or gym rats!

Being a teacher/lecturer herself, Sharon understood the influence these Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) lessons have not just on the Men, Women & Teens that join up but also on the families they represent. Like myself, a lot of my students have the strong desire to defend the people they love when they attend Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) classes. They share incidents involving their own partners, spouses, and family members who, while rarely unaware, occasionally recognise the benefits of self-defense training—even if it means missing out on some wonderful family time.

These loved ones or family members act as an unseen pillar of strength, providing steady financial and emotional backing so that the parent or child can gain the knowledge and self-assurance necessary to protect their families. Theirs is a silent bravery, a commitment that profoundly fortifies our Krav Maga Self Defense (India) community. It’s a monument to the awareness that self-defense isn’t just about individual empowerment; it’s about establishing a safe and secure environment for the people we love the most.

What really motivates me is this commitment, this unseen tie between spouses or between families. It’s a monument to the strength of love or family, both the one we make at home and the one we build inside our Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) community. So, to Sharon, and to all the great parents, spouses or loved ones who stand by their Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) Warriors, a heartfelt thank you & a salute to you all and to our great country. You are the unsung heroes, the unsung allies who enable so many people to practice self-defense. Your strength enables your partners to help us as a Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) community, impart knowledge, and give our members a sense of empowerment. You are the backbone of our Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) community, our anchor. Your understanding and unflinching support generate a ripple effect, building a culture of safety and security that stretches far beyond.

This subconscious agreement is acknowledged by the Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) community themselves. They are aware of the dedication required to attend class every week, and they know that this dedication would not be possible without the constant encouragement from home. It fosters a sense of camaraderie within the Krav Maga Self Defense (India) community, a recognition that we are all in this together. We know that when we walk out of the studio, we are a part of something greater than ourselves since we train together and encourage one another. Our common goal to safeguard our homes, our loved ones, and ourselves unites us as a community.

This piece of writing is for you, Sharon. You are the wind beneath my wings and the silent inspiration behind each protective kick and strike. You motivate me to improve as a teacher, husband, and father to our daughter. I appreciate your faith in me, even when things didn’t seem clear. My greatest strength has always been and always will be you. However, you go beyond that; you’re my partner, and the two of us are creating something genuinely unique.

Through relationships with family, I, Specialist Franklin Joseph and my wife, along with many of our Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) practitioners’ families, demonstrate the resilience and strength of the human spirit. We plan to publish more testimonies about the positive impact that families have on our Krav Maga Self Defense (Bengaluru, India) community. Please contact me if you wish to publish your words.
